A fine quality early Edwardian solid mahogany bedstead. This robustly built design features popular dipped top rails, clustered lathes, and mitred-plinth post caps. New in stock, this bedstead has undergone a meticulous and comprehensive restoration process. The job sheet alone for this work totals nearly £1,000 in skilled labour and cabinetmaking. We have carried out the work in this uncompromising manner to especially appeal to bed buyers who like their antiques ‘just so’. It is a perfectly restored and functioning antique, exactly as it would have been when it left the factory of our Edwardian forebears.
We can’t do this with every bedstead, and it’s important to choose ones that are particularly suitable for us to make perfect from the outset. After all, it is far more advantageous to work with the kindness that old Father Time affords the chosen few antique beds than to reverse the woes he has bestowed upon those less fortunate others. Note that this bedstead will be fitted with a set of best-quality cast brass screw-and-ring-plate castors, complete with a square cast brass embellisher. Again, these items will be polished to a mirror finish and cold-brass lacquered to seal their shine.

Woodwork: A meticulous team effort by our cabinet makers and French Polisher, the results of their labour speak for themselves
Iron Work: The side irons were lengthened and strengthened and grit-blasted. They were then etch primed and hand-brushed in a rich brown paint tone, which our painters mixed by hand to complement the warmth of the Mahogany bed ends.

The images shown here of bed ref: 96034W60 show this bedstead complete with a combined mattress and bedstead height of 27cm (10½”). A statement Brass & Iron bedstead such as this one could accommodate a deeper mattress and base height. One should be mindful that making a bedstead’s overall mattress height either too high or too low can impact the aesthetic integrity of the overall scheme one is seeking to create.
